Trauma-Informed Zambia (TIZ) - LEPH 2026 Convening Session

Zambia is developing a bold new initiative to bridge the gap between policing and public health, tackling gender-based violence and mental health through trauma-informed, cross-sector collaboration. Led by Alex Chitumbo, Danny Mwinanu Mwala, and Larry Lubinda Mooka, Trauma-Informed Zambia brings together law enforcement, public health practitioners, and community leaders to build a more compassionate, informed police response — with the potential to break intergenerational cycles of trauma and violence across one of the world’s youngest populations.

This informal session is an open invitation to anyone curious about the initiative: come and hear directly from the team about its progress so far, the toolkit and resources being developed, and where the project is headed next. We’re especially keen to use this session to explore how the wider LEPH and GLEPHA community can get involved — whether that’s sharing research, expertise, or lived experience from trauma-informed practice elsewhere, contributing to the evolving toolkit, forming links with your own institution or network, or simply helping us think through what comes next. This is very much a project in development, and we see real value in shaping it together with others working at the intersection of policing and public health.

Whether you’re interested in trauma-informed policing, law enforcement–public health partnerships, or international collaboration more broadly, we’d love to have you join the conversation and help us build this initiative forward.
